About Baseball Exercises

By Mikaela Barajas

It doesn't always get the proper amount of attention from the coaches and the parents that it should to have the thought of baseball exercises being important to young baseball players. It is somewhat understandable, but training should begin as early in a player's career as possible, as one equates youth with , as One equates youth with unlimited energy and abilities, it is somewhat understandable, but training should begin as early in a player's career as possible.

Always begin with knowing the basics of the game. An intelligent and wise player is someone who understands the rules and terms being used in baseball. It can help you perform these exercises appropriately to know what is pull-up, push press, row, squat, and others. You make it sure that you fulfill all your routine exercises in order for your body to get used to it. So that your muscles will purely develop as you continue your training, you can use up to 90% of your body strength in each drill.

Players are never considered to be too young to begin a strengthening and conditioning program. In fact, because the longer you wait, the longer it takes for the player to catch up and that proper strength and muscle building requires time to develop, you are doing a disservice to the player waiting until he/she is 11 or 12 years old.

Let us look into a number of exercises through the terminology of training and Baseball specific.

Wind Sprints are a tried and true method in order for you to develop speed as well as endurance. Endurance is required to be able to play 7 innings at peak performance level and just in order to play 7 innings of baseball. Does an inside the park home run count for less in the 6th inning rather than the 1st? With a 0-0 score, it is considered as of equal importance, but if the level of performance has shriveled because of fatigue, the 6th inning run may not score.

Sprints in sets of 10, 30 to 40 yards in length will have the player(s) to be embarking on an endurance program with quality. Having the players run the drills as a unit, such as pitchers together, catchers, infielders, etc. will also build a team unity which is during the course of a long season, will be considered invaluable.

Squeezing racquetballs or tennis balls, is considered as an excellent exercise for developing wrist, forearm and finger strength. Without the need for a partner or any special weather conditions, the drill can be performed by the player anywhere at any time.

It is your strong fingers which are a huge part of swinging a baseball bat and one may not realize that.Try to think about it. It is not in the palm of your hand where you hold the bat, at least you better not, where there is no strength. You will have the bat clasped firmly in the fingers using the palms to merely keep the bat from falling out of your hand.

Strong wrist and forearms, which operate in conjunction with the hands, are the strength mechanisms when swinging a bat or throwing a baseball which yield the snap and power of the wrist.

These are but two exercises, or rather training exercises, of which a young player would need to start with as soon as possible. With the intensity level increased as the player develops, strength, endurance, team building and much more are accomplished through drills, exercises and training which is started young.
